El articulo definido “The”

En español hay cuatro artículos definidos: el, la, los y las. Todos estos artículos se traducen en inglés como "the".

"The" en ingles, se usa mucho para hablar de cosas que son únicas en el mundo, un país, un estado, una ciudad, etc..

"The" se emplea para referirse a zonas geográficas; ríos, cordilleras, archipiélagos, canales, ríos, océanos y mares.

También utilizamos "The" con países de nombre plural y cuyo nombre contiene las palabras republic kingdom o states.

Como regla general, no se usan los artículos, pero si el país tiene más de una palabra o su nombre deriva de sustantivos comunes (por ejemplo, USA, UK, UAE), se usa el artículo "the".

Generalmente no se usa un artículo al hablar de islas, pero si el nombre tiene diferentes partes, entonces se utiliza el artículo definido.

 

Ejemplo:

James is from the Republic of Ireland – James es de la República de Irlanda.

El artículo "the" no se usa al hablar de comida en general, pero si estás hablando sobre un desayuno, comida o cena en particular, entonces hay que usarlo.

 

Ejemplo:

 I don’t eat breakfast-No desayuno..

Los puntos cardinales se escriben con mayúscula cuando se refieren a regiones concretas (the North, the South, the East, the West), pero se escriben con minúscula si indican una dirección o una ubicación general.

Si los puntos cardinales van después de una preposición o se refieren a una región concreta, se utiliza el artículo definido the. Si van detrás de un verbo, no se usa el artículo.

 

Ejemplo:

They went east– Ellos fueron al este.
